Nathan Mitchell

The McShin Foundation
Outreach Director
Richmond, Virginia

Nathan is a person in sustained recovery from a substance use disorder. He was first introduced to recovery through a McShin Foundation jail program. Upon release, he moved into a McShin recovery residence where he was first a participant, then a peer leader, and then a house leader. Nathan began his career with McShin as a peer recovery coach which led to his involvement with the Community Catalyst National Peer Council that informed and guided the first national examination of treatment and recovery services outcomes prioritized by people with substance disorders.

As McShin's Outreach Director, Nathan works in the community to reduce stigma, increase access to recovery support services, and embolden others with a message that recovery is possible. As a state organizer with The Virginia Recovery Advocacy Program, Nathan works with grassroots advocates across the Commonwealth and throughout the country to create better public policy in response to America's addiction epidemic.
